Hi, I have read in the BLUG website that Lemote was willing to offer some computers to developers if they could help promoting the product with developments.
I am a member of the promising Haiku Operating System Community which aims to bring back a BeOS like operating system to life (see http://www.haiku-os.org). The project had spots in the Google summer of code 2007 and 2008 and will soon reach Alpha Stage. It  works only currently on i386 architecture although ports for other platforms are currently investigated.
According to that page http://www.lemote.com/english/yeeloong.html, the yeelong architecture seems to be completely opened.
Therefore, HOW and WHO should I contact to ask for help, specifications and eventually to be sent a free machine (not necessarily the yeelong, but something that works) to port this Operating system to that platform.

Hi Prophet,

The developer plan hasn't been finalized. Once we have ironed out all the details it will be published and clear what and how to do.

Thanks.

For the ALPHA (yes ALPHA ;) ) release of Haiku, there are still two blocker bugs to be quashed. Otherwise, pre-alpha image builds are available for virtual machines. There are people who managed to make it boot and install through usb key.
I hope that the alpha will be out before the end of the year. I have a spare laptop waiting for it.
I am planning to buy a netbook, therefore I am waiting impatiently to have more details about the pricing of the yeelong....and of course having Haiku working on it (I hope there will be many Chinese people interested in it so that a special version for China could be made and changing the name here in China...Haiku is here and asia in General not the best name to choose).

Hi there.
Haiku is the name of the OS, it's really possible (and useful) to have distributions with different names, someone already made one named "Senryu". A chinese oriented distro would also include translations, input method enabled by default, ...

We will need to port to MIPS anyway before it happens, and I have some other ports in the pipeline for now

Haiku on the Lemote systems would indeed be interesting.  I've been watching HaikuOS from a distance since the days of OpenBeOS, and it has been interesting to see how it has progressed.

This is a project that has come a long way.

I believe..

that Haiku on this Netbook is very promising because of the openeness and simplicity. I am waiting patiently. Go Haiku...
